sustainability

In 2025 Coromandel Oyster Co Ltd got involved with Destination Coromandel Hauraki, who are contributing to protect and enhance biodiversity in Hauraki Coromandel through their Kaitiaki program.

We are part of a group of businesses who are helping to regenerate native ecosystems, safeguard wildlife, and leave a legacy of care for generations to come.
We have donated trees to help reduce CO2 emmissions (4.42 tons) and also providing money to community Conservation groups.

Kaitiaki is an initiative focused on protecting the biodiversity of Hauraki Coromandel through tree planting and supporting predator control.

In 2022, Destination Coromandel began working with a Sustainability Advisor, Instep and local businesses on the peninsula, as part of a pilot program toward a Sustainability Program.

The Instep crew provided a wealth of practical information and tips to save money and our region. It was great to learn about the small changes we can each make to achieve a great result together and cut costs!

Focusing on Carbon Free, Waste Free and Predator Free, Coromandel Oyster Co undertook the Sustainability Programme with Instep and are happy to offer our results publically to help Destination Coromandel roll the programme out to other industry participants and to enhance our region’s reputation.

We’re proud to be part of this programme and would like to encourage all visitors to reinforce the sustainable actions that we are taking to restore and protect the unique natural landscapes and marine environments, native wildlife and cultural heritage of our home.

Everyone has their part to play, whether it’s using a keep cup, washing the boat on the grass or taking a guided tour.

NOTE: We believe the snap freezing initiative is moving away from our business concept of farm fresh to table is best. We also believe that this could lead to food wastage and increased energy usage, so it isn’t something we are currently considering.
